Failure and rejection is part of the PhD, but we don’t talk about it as much as we should.
So here’s a story: I have a paper that’s been rejected 3 times. There won’t be a 4th attempt, because I’ve given up. #phdchat

tbh I just feel like the bar in PL is too damn high. I have published papers in so many other fields. Assuming your paper will be rejected for 2+ years is not the norm. It's just the norm in PL. I don't know what to do about it: I love the work I do, but it's just damn hard.
(I find putting things on @arxiv early helps me view the conference accept/reject process as about a talk proposal, not a paper publication -- I decide what to publish; the community decides what they want to hear.)

yep, in many fields people just speak about "publishing" papers, not submitting / resubmitting / re-resubmitting them. the general vibe is that if the work is done and legit, with some minor-ish journal revisions, it's always published
