hi! I'm the author of the piece. Any specific instances of negative emotion or verbal aggression?

Starting with "seems to have invented" -- I am not disputing some of your claims (except the one about zero sleep not ultimately causing death, which seems unsubstantiated at best), but I do feel the tone was needlessly harsh.

yeah, this was a point where I decided that I should say explicitly that I didn't just "fail to find information"... am curious about zero sleep! Everything I read suggested lack of sleep is not lethal in humans&I couldn't find a single counterexample. Would be grateful for one!

You are asking for the impossible, imo. Before people die from lack of sleep, they will just fall asleep. Expts with cats, dogs, rats do suggest that they die from lack of sleep. Seems this is all the info that will ever be on the table.

hmmmm, do cats, dogs, rats fall asleep right before death? I imagine there would be accidental deaths via torture, since sleep deprivation is used there or at least some historical examples

Depends what you define as zero sleep. Like how many repeated nights of total sleep deprivation count as zero sleep overall in your opinion?

As many as required for death to occur?

I mean there’s ONLY theoretical reasons to believe that [hypothetically] in the long run death would occur (e.g. low temperature, slow metabolism, weak immune system)

But people can go on for very long periods of time with minimal sleep and way fewer and less detrimental symptoms than the public might expect (see patients in manic episodes)

In general though I think death by lack of sleep would be like trying to drown yourself in a swimming pool without ‘assistance’. At some point homeostasis or your survival instincts will kick in and win over your... personal willpower??

which is why I think there should be examples from history of involuntary sleep deprivation.. I gotta look deeper into those animals experiments
