Good thoughts. I feel I don't have enough time and should put aside more time for learning new skills and, quite simply, reading. 45min-1h per day would be nice

I had a colleague who spend the first hour of (almost) every day learning (mainly math). Found that quite inspirational. So it can be done!

I really need more time to actually do something with my old skills :)

We were just talking about that this morning - how you have 20 genius papers you just need to get out there sonwe can read them :) [btw, in your uni tomorrow for ethics workshop - let me know if you want a beer at the end of the day!]

My answer probably isn’t representative. Ideally, I’d spend all my time learning new skills, but in service of figuring out how to integrate them into existing workflows and developing tutorials. I probably currently spend 10-20% on things where I incidentally develop new skills.

Maybe that's why I think you are so smart :)

A few months. Having dedicated time per week wouldn't work I think, need a longer stretch of time to get into things properly
-
I guess I have some time per week I can spend on research but there's some (imagined?) pressure to use that for producing output

Been trying to learn to write reproducibly. Learned good deal of R (anaysis in last submission was fully in R). Next step is Rmd. All while dept chair. Expecting a heart attack anytime soon. 1 day a week of absolutely free time would be enough.

Hang in there!
