Um...the whole household pays $15/month and supports dozens of channels. If I could afford to subscribe to each, I'd just do so other way, but I couldnt even transfer that to $1/mo to each creator I enjoy.

I just hate that nowhere understands the "micro" in microtransactions anymore. Ads are paying something around a cent per thousand views, maybe a few cents per sub per month, but neither youtube nor sites like patreon allow a point or whatever pool to send truly tiny amounts.

And they have to avoid actual transactions being that small, due to various fees. I get why many won't accept a payment of less than $5, just like some stores. That's why a pool on the platform, even a temp virtual currency. Lower the fees on intake.

Of course, apps and sites paying people for trivial stuff like watching ads understand all too well about that concept. The best I can recall seeing was a penny per video watched, with only a handful available a day.

Basically, companies can do it to desperate, poor, or bored people, but poor people can't use a similar system to still give more than nothing for things they love.

Those fees aren't taxes. Two separate topics. I'm talking the fees associated with payment processors.

For quite a few of them (such as paypal and gofundme) it's 2-3% +$0.30. But that +0.30 is where the issue comes in on small transactions. Assume the high end of 3%. 0f you send $100, that's only $3.30, or 3.3%. If you're sending $1, it's $0.33, but that comes out to 33%!

When you go to the store, they typically have to deal with a similar fee (which they're usually paying, at least here). Some will refuse or charge you if it's under a certain threshold for this exact reason. Imagine paying even $.30 on a purchase of a pack of gum!
