    Some lemon juice in the fridge managed to grow some mold, and you can be assured that I got rid of that right quick. Anything that can grow in an environment that acidic will probably gain sentience in a week and start speaking French a week after that.

    Several years ago, a neighbor kid kicked a football and shattered a small basement window. We were a family of six living on a teacher's salary at the time, so I boarded it up, thinking I'd get to it someday. The frame was rusted shut. I couldn't fix it. 1/

    The buildup to the actual performances (one of Balanchine's Rubies, one of an original choreographed piece called Dakini) are fantastic, and the final episode features both opening nights, and despite all the hoopty-hoo with stuff about plot, it's wonderful.

    But! Sascha Radetsky is SO GOOD, which comes as no surprise to anyone who saw Center Stage (or any of his ballet performances), and Irina Dvorovenko is excellent, and whenever the show stops being overly melodramatic and focuses on some dancing, it's wonderful.

    The writing is also over the top; this is basically Trigger Warning: The TV Show. You got eating disorders and a really harrowing sexual assault scene and a scary-ass brother played by a Fury Road War Boy and a whole pile of sexual harassment, and [spoiler].

    This is not a big surprise, since the showrunners specifically cast actual ballet dancers to avoid any body doubles (coughs politely in Black Swan), but does have the unintended effect of having wildly different levels of acting ability on the screen.

    A less polite way of saying this is that Flesh and Bone is dumb in the way that classical ballets are also dumb, and in a similar vein, the dancing is absolutely fantastic.

    When I taught I'd have kids ask if they could stay in my room during lunch. Took me a bit but I figured out what was up and just started feeding them. That grew into a weekend food in a backpack program and after school program.
