First I wanna say this does NOT come from a general hatred or distrust for those on the socially conservative right. In the past I really despised these people because I didn’t understand them. Now, that’s not the case, and I’d be happy to sit down and talk about gender,

Sex, culture, etc with social conservatives because often their view is so far from my own, with points I have previously not been open to considering. But fighting a political and legal battle over such a politically charged issue as transgenderism is not the same as

Having a conversation. Let me share two main reasons why. 1. The first one is more strategic. The main argument TRAs have against the diverse collection of individuals who have concerns about the trans movement is that we are motivated by small minded bigotry and a lack of

Understanding of what a transgender person is or what they go through. Because of this, our NUMBER ONE PRIORITY is to undeniably show that we don’t come from a place of hatred or disgust towards people who do not conform to traditional gender roles, and that we are genuinely,

Compassionately invested in the health and happiness of people with gender dysphoria. So what happens, politically, when we intentionally work with groups or figures that ARE read as coming from a place of disgust or bigotry, and ARE read as I empathetic or ignorant of the needs

Of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or gender dysphoric? We give the impression to uninitiated onlookers that we don’t really care about this population, because we are working with groups who historically have been unsupportive of common sense, mainstream acceptance

Of LGB (and now gender dysphoric) issues in the past. And worst of all, we give TRAs the ultimate ammo to just point at us and say “see? They’re bigots! They work with the people who stand on corners and scream god hates fags!” When TRAs do this, and they always will, it’s

On the people who gave them this ammunition because we just made their jobs a whole lot easier. It’s a different thing arguing that TERFs don’t hate trans people, because radfems support gender nonconformity, and arguing that religious fundies don’t hate trans people because...

Well... in some very public and obvious cases they ARE hostile to not only trans people, but GAY people as well. They lost that fight, big time, and now we’re partnering with the losing team on a TOTALLY separate issue just so they can do the obvious thing and smear us as

Ignorant, outdated bigots? It’s not worth it, especially when you consider the tactics the socially conservative right use (like pushing state legislation) will be ineffective on this issue, just like it was with gay marriage. That’s a thing for another thread.

Partnering with groups/figures who openly condemn homosexuality, gender nonconformance, hell, DIVORCE, is political suicide. And a lot of detransitioners are frustrated bc it’s setting back our effort to show that we are NOT fundie bigots who don’t understand trans people.

2. The second reason is more personal, and honestly now that I’m doing some deeper digging into some of the groups certain people have been working with, I feel hurt that they would do so, ESPECIALLY parents of trans identified people. I’m not talking about talking

To a journalist who happens to lean right, I’m talking about doing collaborative activism with groups or individuals who openly oppose homosexuality, gender nonconformity, even extra-marital sex. Like REALLY out there beliefs that aren’t accepted in the mainstream culture AT ALL.

We all know a huge percentage of people who suffer from gender dysphoria and are at risk of being harmed by medical transition are lesbian, gay, or bisexual, and that their dysphoria was in part motivated by internalized shame due to growing up in environments that made them

Young people, shows a deep level of misunderstanding and a lack of true empathy for detransitioners and others who suffer from gender dysphoria due to these ideas. Especially if you are a parent. It actually makes me very angry that some parents are choosing to do something

These groups or public figures who espouse seriously anti-gay and anti-GNC views shows that you fundamentally do NOT want to truly understand, connect with, or really at the end of the day HELP people suffering from gender dysphoria. It’s easy to paint the whole problem as an

Victimized by the trans movement, please stop conducting activism with the socially conservative (religious) right. This doesn’t mean demonize them. This doesn’t mean don’t talk to them. This means stop supporting an agenda that hurts the population you claim to want to help.

Lastly, if you would like to talk to me more about this issue and why I have come to the conclusions I have, I invite you to! You can send me a message on curious cat, it’s in my bio. Thanks for reading and I hope we can all help people in ways that are effective and meaningful.
