And in this paper it pinpoints 3 major events in human male development where testosterone surges 1. During the development of the testes in utero 2. 1-2 months post natal 3. Puberty 2/

Each of these events has been shown to cause physical, behavioral, and cognitive developments in human males, and females who were exposed to high levels of prenatal androgens are also shown to have more physical, behavioral, and cognitive traits in common with males (on avg) 3/

So I’m wondering: what is the effect behaviorally or cognitively of high dose testosterone usage in females who transition? We know there are physical changes, some reversible and some not, but I wonder if there are neurological changes as well. Are they permanent? 4/

How do they differ based on the age of the female taking T or the duration of usage? I don’t know about y’all, but I think I had some pretty significant changes in my emotional/cognitive processes while I was on T, and I feel like there’s something “different” to this day 5/

Now this could be purely an emotional thing because of how intense and life changing my decision to go on T was, but I’m also curious if a “male puberty” initiated by a testosterone surge during transition can have lasting effects neurologically, and if so how it would /6

I’ve heard many Tran man describe a kind of mind Fog and no being as good with language as they had been pre T. I experience this. I thought I ran across some write up about how testosterone effects gray matter in the brain.
-
I’ve always been “gifted” with language and I TOTALLY became brain dead on T, like I could not convey a single thought or feeling for 2 years to the point where I came to believe I was just naturally stupid. This has resolved its self though thankfully

Sure, a great deal of “male” or “female” behavior is learned – but that doesn’t mean an infant is a total blank slate. See this sad story: http://www.isna.org/faq/reimer

I recently did a literature review of prenatal androgen’s effects on the fetal brain in both males and females. It’s fascinating and really dismantles the idea that gender identity and expression are completely independent of genes and hormones.
-
It was especially interesting reading about the girls who had high levels of androgens and exhibited more male-typical psychological traits and behaviors.
