Actually the trick is not to identify the bad parts of yourself AS yourself. Self-loathing is often a barrier against positive change since it causes you to identify urself as "thing that I hate." Better to realize that part is dead weight to be sloughed off, not part of self

It only ceases to be a part of you after you have destroyed it.

This is all v conceptual. There is real danger in excessive self-loathing since it associates ur ego with bad attributes by implication. It's neither about self-love or self-loathing. It's not about SELF at all, that's the hardest part. Impossible to think urself into smaller ego

Correct, in a vacuum. But consider our culture. In the face of such a pseudo-empathetic anesthetic culture self-hate helps stave off the numbness and instantiate action. Fat people don’t hit the gym until they reach a severe point of self-loathing and despair.

Ironic that the cult of self worship is one of the driving forces behind the dissolution of the self.
