Without the idea of the promised land, what is the point of continuing through the desert? Maybe things never get better, but maybe you just reach a point where they seem better. Where you make your own promised land in what little space of reality you can control.

I think most philosophical divergences are mostly epistemic and I think this to be no different fundamentally.
