"Philly burned" -- who told you that? There was widespread looting unfortunately, but only a couple isolated fires (would've preferred zero, but it's very misleading to say the city burned).

To be fair, Philly also burns every time one of their sports team wins something.
-
So they have nothing to worry about. (Lose)win-win.

This is a really good article which promotes a community policing model. I like the fact they got the actual police on the streets and the stuff civilians could do they do. At the end of the day it is still a police department.

It’s a good and encouraging story, but a 60% increase in officers is seems like a far cry from what the “defund”‘crowd is pushing
-
Well maybe, although the Defund movement is more about the types of equipment (military surplus, riot gear, rubber bullets) than it is number of personnel.

Yes! Thank you! I don’t know why more people don’t know about this when they freak out about defunding the police.

When I bring up Camden, most people still do the "murder capital USA!" line. Just easy to skip over a small city doing this, I suppose.

Did Newark or any other major city in NJ burn? While the reforms were unique, as someone who worked there 2014-6, I would never say Camden was a good example for reform of any kind.
-
I mean this style of policing was introduced in 2014 so I think it's a little crazy to expect instant change. The fact is that 2016 is 4 years ago and things have absolutely gotten better and are trending in the right direction.
