In 2012 I wrote about another troubled city - Camden - that dismantled its police force to start fresh. No accident that in the last week Camden has not had the violent protests that other cities have. It’s possible to get this right.https://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/29/nyregion/overrun-by-crime-camden-trades-in-its-police-force.html?smid=tw-share …

Actually they replaced their understaffed police force with one that had more resources, better support, and more proactive policing to bring down crime. For some reason I don’t think the current defund police strategy is aimed to improve law enforcement but to eviscerate it

As I said, this is a comparison to Minneapolis talk of restarting police force; not defunding.

I'm happy this worked. But what your story indicates is that the key was replacing the unionized city force with the non-unionized country force and thus ending the officers sense of immunity. In any case, it's not "defunding the police."

The force did unionize again. Key was really changing way police related to the city. Also, I’m not comparing this to defunding the police (you’re right it was not) I’m pointing it out as Minneapolis says it wants to dismantle police.
