Just to be clear, I think Pelosi’s look was effective because it was coming from a boss who managed a super fraught process basically flawlessly and the people lucky enough to be in her caucus know this and respect her judgement....

...it feels like it cheapens this moment to use a gendered ”mom look” term (which can be dismissive) rather than acknowledging the respect she has earned for being a dominant, savvy, intelligent, integrous Speaker of the House during this incredibly difficult time.

Agreed but she herself talks often about the importance of her experience as a mother of five. Seems like we encourage a dismissive attitude toward that experience by pretending it’s not important. It can be both experienced legislator and experienced mother of five.

She does and I respect that experience. And I want MANY more moms in Congress! But I also know that I am a mom but could not have managed this process the way Pelosi did. She was uniquely capable not bc of her motherhood but her many other characteristics too. And I worry...
