5 years ago today I came out to my parents. While I am so proud of my queerness, I’m still so frightened. I’m frightened for my safety and I’m frightened for the safety of my queer brothers and sisters. The fight is not over, we need to do more to protect queer people.

It’s interesting that white media are once again platforming white men and their opinions rather than Indigenous people or AFL players for that matter. You are acting under the same colonial institutions that sport is, do better it’s not hard.

Imagine you’re a young kid who loves playing rugby and struggling with your sexuality and then see members of your favourite team refuse to wear a rainbow jersey and basically refute your existence. Imagine how scared, alone and heartbroken you would be.
