    Or they're simply far so good in one skill but didn't have the qualifications to meet a degree's minimum qualifications. Or both, like a friend of mine, he's amazing at pixel art, amazing at pixel animation, and amazing at videogame design (not just art).

    not accessible for everyone due to the degree they're looking for not being accessible in a nearby university (I moved from Málaga to Madrid to study videogames!), which leads to higher costs as they have to live separated from their families, maintaining one more house...
