I remember back in 2004 I was in one of my favorite restaurants and two old men were lamenting all the destruction during Phantom Fury, Fallujah. OK, I thought. “You know who could have done a good job? Zhukov!” What the fuck

Dude at the table next to us is explaining Mao and the history of the CCP next to me. I rolled my eyes but he’s actually given a pretty even-handed account. Part of me is still waiting for it go off the rails, though. This is San Francisco.

It's been a year since the Bay Area woke up to orange skies as smoke from wildfires layered with fog and clouds to create an otherworldly charred orange hue to the sky. Absolutely none of it was cool.

Thanks for finally creating an upside to EMP Apocalypse. It wasn't easy but you did it.

I did a search on "biomimetic" on Getty and you have to see this too. (Also: of course, Japan.)

This is a huge relief. Mask mandate in schools and vaccinations are both workinf. SF is at 80% for adults and 95% for 12-17 year olds.

I'm pleased with the general results, though I can't seem to take good photos of this thing. What photos I take make it look like a 1/72. (No right side profile pics--I accidentally added an extra track length on the right and the entire run is a little extra saggy.)

Of course, as soon as I bought all the necessary stuff to do this kitbash Miniart released a kit of THE EXACT SAME TANK. This was useful as a reference. I need to buy a Miniart kit to thank them.

Parts include the Tamiya T-55 kit, Star Decals Croatian Army 1/35 sheet, and Sector 35 tracks. Paint is Tamiya spray, AK interactive gloss varnish (which left a weird texture I didn't really like), and Tamiya and AK paints. Also an AK brown on green filter.

I was not looking forward to the paint job, which consists of standard Y/JNA green painted over with brown, green, and black stripes. The original camo job was kind of crappy, which turned out to be a good thing as I could replicate it with an ordinary brush.

Anyway, it's an interesting tank. It's missing the front track guards, lacks external fuel stowage, and uses an American .50 caliber machine gun instead of a 12.7 DShK, a legacy of US arms transfers to Tito in the 1950s.

The tank, a Croatian Army T-55, is one of the more well known tanks from the 1990s Balkan Wars. Mike and I like the Tamiya T-55 kit, and while researching variants I came across these photos. (Damn, I just noticed the camouflage on the searchlight cover.)

Transpacific T55: California edition is done. This is a project and I started in June 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic. I thought we'd wrap up by August--boy was I wrong. This was a fun build.
