I'm still elated to have gotten 6h of sleep last night, since that's much much more than I've gotten on any night in at least a month, in case you're wondering how my life is going.

Pretty psyched to go to the Ozarks next year for the first time in probably two decades. Will be fun to introduce the girls to that part of my life, will be sad to not have access to my grandparents property (they passed long ago). Might buy it one day.

Having a very bad sleeping 6mo and an incurably noisy 4yo share a wall is going to give me an ulcer.

Update: actually made a proper chili today with home-ground chuck and 5 types of dried and fresh peppers, and I think it'd be a good starting point for a competitive chili. Still basking in afterglow.

I'm sure the Xfinity one is better for some people, but as someone who has historically considered themselves design-blind, it's interesting to live this A/B test and see how much the minor differences impact the experience of being in what is roughly the primary room in my life.

I think the core is that the Xfinity one just animates too much, and as such draws my attention to a fundamentally boring screen. It also has too much text, and much of the text tells me things I already know or in some cases (the inexplicable celebrity news) would rather not.

My TV is effectively randomly showing either the Chromecast or the Xfinity 'pretty world photos and timestamp' screensaver much of the time, and it's been a good natural experiment showing me how I have a strong preference between displays I can't really tell apart without effort

of course, I'm doing some going-to-taco-bell-and-complaining-it-isn't-a-good-taqueria here. I can buy decent bread if I want it; I'm snobbing a bit. Still, I'm sad imagining people metaphorically believing taco bell is a real taqueria. At least real taco bell is kinda good..

Oven has been broken so I've been eating store-bought bread products and.. I just.. it's just.. soo bad out there. The FDA needs to step in or something. I've seen bad flavor, bad structure, bad texture, and bad cake mislabeled as bread. Oven technician can't come soon enough.

One of the joys of watching my kid in swim/gymnastics/etc class is watching someone else have to deal with her sweet, pure chaotic anti-authoritarian energy and just smiling softly, because she's your problem until 2:15, buddy.
