An "executive" who "read" my pilot suggested that I have someone new move into the neighborhood as a way of introducing all the characters.... ....but the central action of the script already revolves around a family moving into the neighborhood and meeting their new neighbors.

That was the cherry on top of a crap notes cake. Most disappointing feedback I've ever received, from a person who makes a considerable living writing for TV. Thankfully I had plenty of counter feedback from other pros but I'm incredibly wary now.

As a Latina writer I’ve gotten similar notes on my Latina protagonists - so infuriating. I was once told my lead Latina protagonist with secret superpowers needed to be “sexy”.

I see folks receiving that particular feedback a lot and it's just the worst example of the white male gaze diminishing the experience of others while dehumanizing people and fetishizing their existence.
