Detailed analysis of the 2020 presidential candidates for their ability to improve collective global well-being reveals that Pete Buttigieg and Mike Bloomberg are most deserving of your vote. Details here:

  3. OK, I just found that Buttigieg did say he would consider boycotting the Beijing Olympics. Maybe his declining-to-answer doesn't mean what I think it means (him thinking 'no' but not willing to say it). So maybe he would be the best one to vote for.

  4. In summary, if you place overriding priority on stopping the concentration camps, vote Biden. But I think this would require a difficult-to-defend level of emphasis on this one particular issue.

  5. focus on this issue, so Biden would comfortably be the best candidate. Also, Bernie and Warren probably aren't gonna trade with China even if they do end their camps. So they have less of a 'carrot' to offer.

  6. I tentatively rank Biden>Bernie>Warren. But this is a very difficult judgment, they are all very close, and it depends on these electability judgments. I guess you could say that Trump is the worst candidate for the Uyghurs, so electability becomes even more important if we

  7. Klobuchar is good here, but her campaign has almost no prospect of success. So if you want to be sure that your candidate will fight the concentration camps then the only realistic answer is whichever of Biden/Bernie/Warren happens to be generally best.

  8. But, revising numbers with reasonably higher weights assigned to ending the concentration camps, it doesn't change the conclusion. Bloomberg has a comfortable margin from doing well on other topics, and Buttigieg, the #2 recommendation, declined to answer the question.

  9. It feels bad to have a recommendation to someone who won't make this commitment.

  10. Mike Bloomberg, somewhat bizarrely, would make respect for Hong Kong's political rights a precondition of normal Sino-American trade and relations, but would not do so for ending the concentration camps in Xinjiang.

  13. Fixing the health insurance writeup in CSS. It's a much more accurate and coherent explainer now. (See next tweet for the 5th image) Going to call M4A "Berniecare" from now on because that's what it is. It's very different from actual Medicare.

  19. Everyone likes to shit on this quote, but I genuinely don't see what's wrong with it. It's just a plain statement of fact. He's saying that governments take actions which form history. He's not saying that they can make up a narrative and spread it as if it were true.

  20. (Left-wing commentators are guilty of this mistake too sometimes. Trump hasn't irreparably destroyed norms of good governance; he's only causing them to be ignored by his tribe for as long as they're around.)

  21. It's very tempting to go all poli-sci and talk about norms and legitimacy but sometimes it's just not very relevant compared to immediate questions of political forces.
