    It’s amazing how every few weeks we see yet another example which supports ’s thesis that crypto’s best use case is enabling more creative scams and yet so few people in this industry are willing to acknowledge it.

    I genuinely don't understand why "Someone signed up to your service and gave them my email address by mistake" is so difficult for so many companies to understand.

    I'm fascinated by this simple formula to create bit fields that look like alien art: (x ^ y) % 9

    VALUE = 9

    Forget NFTs, do you know you can just pay many artists to make something for you? Like, just for you? And it tends to not be too expensive? It's wild how amazing commissions are. Easy to lose yourself down the rabbit hole, but, boy, is it worth it.

    Recruiter: We ask you to do three coding interviews. Me: No problem, let me know which engineers from your company you would like me to interview and what programming languages they want to use. Recruiter: <noise a recruiter makes when they SEGV>

    Explaining legacy code to new employees

    This man looks absolutely crazy. Also there appears to be some sort of crime scene map behind him as he gestures wildly

    Ever notice that companies always like to define a key employee leaving as "hit by a bus?" A thread on this weird, weird, WEIRD framing.

    So. I am online when I hear a very loud drilling noise and my Internet shuts off. I co.e downstairs and find a man drilling into my Internet connection with no warning. 1.

    Again reminded of , in which a GNU project removes a warning message informing users that their CPU microcode leaves them vulnerable to CPU microarchitectural attacks

  14. Continuing to try to teach invisible skills of coding to undergrads. Lesson 14, don't be "the silent panic duct tape" team-mate

    If you are ever worried that you broke the repo, PLEASE ANNOUNCE THAT HERE. You aren't necessarily responsible for fixing any disasters you cause, but you are responsible for letting us know as a team so we can all repair broken things
(^ this is true of real world code teams as well, the worst teammate you can have is one who doesn't want anyone to see their mistake and tries to silently fix their error with duct tape as the boat sinks)

    Here's a piece of information that will send a chill down the spine of anyone who's ever designed a database schema: Our new house that we just moved into... has two zip codes!

    The big news today is a major cloud provider has copied our feature of serial consoles for virtual servers so you can remotely debug breaking your network. We can't find the git commit message for our implementation, git was released in 2005 and it was already in production.
