This is strange. It looks like El*n deleted the Twitter is the “biggest click driver on the internet” tweet … but it’s still visible for a brief moment on the iOS app (see video). I haven’t seen this before. I’m guessing Twitter doesn’t want deleted tweets still showing.

Verification is a public service, it is a good deed performed by companies who contribute very little good to the world in my opinion. We should be making easier clearer paths to verification for everyone, not making it harder. It is their responsibility, not a business model.

I have a suggestion. Build a public-facing validation system to protect celebrities, politicians and brands — those most vulnerable to these attacks. This would mitigate materially damaging impersonation ensure all Twitter users can quickly identify parody.
