Nothing more fully underscores the intellectual bankruptcy of libertarianism than this by @robbysoave in @reason and the comments that follow it. The "everyone can choose how much risk to accept" idea gets thrown out the window when they need communal resources now in triage.../1https://twitter.com/robbysoave/status/1334963248551124993 …

"I expect that wearing a mask will become part of my daily life, moving forward, even after a vaccine is deployed." This is just crazy. Many epidemiologists think we need to do social distancing forever. https://reason.com/2020/12/04/epidemiologists-masks-social-distancing-vaccine-forever-new-york-times/ …

...the flaw in the @robbysoave article in @reason is that they act as if theyre talking about someone who eats too much and gets heart disease. (In fact, many of the comments make that analogy.) Sure, they take up resources but they also pay for it in higher insurance premiums...

...this is *completely* different. When these "rugged individualists" are suddenly sucking wind, they don't say "I took the risks I deemed I was willing to take, and these are the consequences." No, they rush to the hospital, where medical staff are dying, to push aside those...3

If you remove brains from the equation and choose not to wear a helmet while motorcycling, it's not a risk to me; I can easily go to a car wash and remove your brains as well. But if you choose not to mask, you risk not only your health but mine too, and that's un-libertarian.

The problem with libertarians us they refuse to acknowledge that others have rights and that there own rights end when they bump up against the rights of others.
