In the above I showed the physical motion of each planet through space Below let's take a look at *completed orbits* per time. The inner planets have the fastest orbital speeds AND shortest distance to travel so the orbit counter is extremely fast...

BIG conclusion: there are 366 Earth rotations of Earth relative to the Stars per ordinary calendar year (i.e. per 365 solar-days). So in 2019 for example, Earth rotated 366 times. I'll be doing a leap day/year explainer next, so you can hit follow if you want to see that

NOTE this has absolutely nothing to do with the leap day / leap year! Leap years are needed because Earth takes 365.24 days to orbit, and we keep short-cutting it by 0.24 days a year. After 4 years Earth is a day behind, and we give it +1 day to catch up in a February.

Earth physically rotates in 23hours 56min relative to distant stars – a Sidereal Day, BUT it takes 24hours to rotate relative to the Sun – a Solar Day The difference? Earth orbits the Sun, so the Sun appears to move (down, in the vid), which means Earth needs +4mins to catch up!

It took us 255 years to go from Galilean transformations for falling bodies to Lorentz transformations that are in accordance with Einstein's special relativity.

Richard Feynman found trigonometry notation to be ambiguous and confusing. "If I had sin f, it looked like s×i×n×f" So he decided to create his own notation. See below. 🧐 What do you think?

Fault-protection software engineers are the heroes who keep our distant spacecraft from losing contact with Earth when they glitch. As long as a spacecraft is talking to us, the odds that we can bring a confused robot back to normal operations are good.

In the 18th century, it was fashionable for men of an intellectual bent to have their portraits painted while wearing banyans and turban-like caps. They believed "loose dresses contribute to the easy and vigorous exercise of the faculties of the mind". Here's Euler's portrait.
