Isn't it ridiculous that soon we'll end up with Chrome, IE Edge, Firefox, Safari, where 3/4 uses the same engine and none of it is 100% compatible with any other? How did we manage to end in this ridiculous situation?

Well ... a new Linux distro + new Chromium based web browser shouldn’t take more than half a day?

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a website that let me generate this in 3 steps, in the form of CD image

        Marcus Kida added,

This rotary knob on the console of the IBM 1401 computer selected the punch card format for pounds and shillings. It is labeled "BSI pence, IBM shill", "BSI", "IBM", "IBM pence, BSI shill".
        Ken Shirriff @kenshirriff
Back when there were 12 pence in a shilling and 20 shilings in a pound, the IBM 1401 computer had optional hardware (i.e. transistors) to do arithmetic on pounds/shillings/pence. Of course, there were two incompatible data standards—BSI and IBM—so this knob selected the format. pic.twitter.com/2WitwLDOSz

I did use some abstraction here obviously. IE Edge uses Blink, actually. It's still ridiculous.

We'll end up with 3 pretty compatible implementations, 2 of which share a lot of heritage, 1 of which is currently older but working on pushing the boundaries (Servo/Quantum). I say this is the best situation we've been in in terms of the web platform.

I think it's still much better than the days when IE 6 was still around. You even had to be aware of the installed service pack to use certain features. This was really a pain in the ass!
