California isn't expecting the first shipment of masks to arrive until May, and the initial contract is for 2.5 months. That nets California's roughly 500 million masks in May, June, and July. Newsom is predicting we'll hit peak in mid-May
Newsom's comment that CA may distribute masks to other Western states rightfully drew attention. But per a Cal OES spox, there is NO formal plan for CA to function as a multi-state distributor. Any effort to share would be more informal and only if CA has more than it needs. END.
