    Our first books have come of age together. I recognize so much in this essay. Rejections to my last book submission (last month!!) were so brutal I had to stop seeing them— I became despondent & began hating myself a little, thinking I was wrong about my work being worth reading.

    It really is. And if we want to improve diversity at all job levels, we need to be open to career changers. Not just people who knew to work in publishing in 2002.
