when i went to India for the first time almost 7 years ago, I saw the most extreme forms of poverty. from then on, I became extremely indignant. I read stuff like Rules for Radicals, Pedagogy of the Opressed, Vollmann’s Poor People, etc. Lots of empathy driven literature.

but over time, as my information flow has changed, so has my subconscious worldview. the economist/rationalist approach, being reasonably against empathy (per

the strangest thing I’m now noticing about this shift has been the development of a sort of default aversion to the aesthetic of modern activism, justice, etc. and a loss in seeing morality as mattering. notable that these are changes in perception, not reality
