To cap off a super crazy week here we have presenting some fascinating data and a really neat argument. A term that stood out to me was “cultural evolutionary psychology” – mjesto: School Of Human Evolution And Social Change

This forthcoming paper discusses some of these points: Quick thread of notes: WEIRD is a clever, but contrived backronym that might be a victim of its own success. Societies don't lie along a spectrum from WEIRD to non-WEIRD.

My six cents on below discussion: 1) "Evolution" just means change over time 2) "Selection" specifies that the change is due to selection 3) Cultural evolution and genetic evolution are both natural processes and they are both biological processes

I wrote this a while ago but thought it a bit salty. But the topic keeps doing the rounds so here we go. I promise this is my last comment on WEIRD psych for a while. Remember when I said there are layers to this discussion? Bear with me:

Commendable effort here - great work! But reading some of the additional commentary on this piece - ppl are still not getting this WEIRD thing. *Caveat* the authors here have done most due diligence (see end of thread) - they can't be responsible for others' interpretations.
