    This is a great blog post, and inspired me to put in writing some of my rambling from last year's FOSDEM talk: "Dynamic type systems aren't even simpler" — because there's never enough advocacy for static types!

    Made something that some people might find useful: Pandoc/PDF is a package for the Atom editor that makes it possible to use Pandoc directly from an editor pane to create a PDF, and to view that PDF in another Atom pane.

    If you are looking to hire "truly exeptional engineers and product persons" (quote of an external contractor) with a strong math background, or want to hire me, let me know. Team and I suddenly find us in the weird position of having to find new work. We are free starting... now!

    On my way to the subway station by bike: car speeding past me going about twice the speed limit and with only cm to spare. On the way back: car swerving into bike lane and blocking me off while abusing bike lane as turning lane. It's only a 1,4km ride. I hate this. WTF

    If you like my open-source work and would like to support my pandoc and open science contributions, you now can buy me a coffee via GitHub sponsors. But also if you don't, thank you for all the kind words and for making this a lot of fun!

    You are writing your thesis in ? I use MD since several years for manuscript writing and it turned out to be very efficient. You might be interested in a blog I wrote yesterday and Scholar

    I think the point of this article cannot be repeated enough: supporting, maintaining, and teaching are severely undervalued, esp. in the tech world: On that note: huge shout out to for all his amazing non-code contributions to pandoc.

    Das schlimmste ist, dass der Radweg bis dahin benutzungspflichtig ist. D.h. man kann sich noch nicht mal sicher einordnen, sondern ist gezwungen mit dem Radweg bis in die Dooring-Todeszone zu fahren – um dann dort zusätzlich mit 50+ km und 50 cm Abstand überholt zu werden.

    Just released jira-wiki-markup 1.0 and finally got the jira reader into pandoc. 🙌 Special thanks to for their Haskell project summoner! It had made starting a new project a lot more fun.

    Any Berlin Haskellers going to ZuriHac next year? Friend and I took the night train last time, which was great fun, so we want to do it again 2020. Looking for people who want to join, possibly share a night train cabin.

    Fine, but surely \{\{text\}\} will work as expected and yield {{text}}? Nope, it's "text", rendered with in a monospace font.

    It gets better. Text double-enclosed in curly braces is rendered as {{monospaced text}}. How would you escape that? Maybe \{{monospaced text}}? Yeah, that gives { {monospaced text} }

    How about three backslashes then? Oh, those renders as \\\. OBVIOUSLY.

    Fun with Jira markup: special characters used for markup, like * or _ can, be backslash-escaped to yield just that character. So \* renders as *, \_ renders as _, etc. What would you guess two backslashes \\ render as? That's right, a line break.
