Hello @TeamYouTube I have three false copyright strikes on my channel and the guy who sent the strikes is extorting me for money to have the strikes removed. Help me please, here are some screenshots of my chat with him.pic.twitter.com/L8tBJobEZg

Yep, these takedowns were abusive–really appreciate you bringing this to our attention. All three strikes are resolved and your videos are reinstated. We have zero tolerance for the submission of fraudulent legal requests, so we've terminated the channels that submitted these.

Sure would be neat if the strike system wasn't so easily abused, but I guess that'll never be a thing

Unfortunately they have to comply with legal takedown requests, and to reduce the amount they have to process, closing repeat offenders’ accounts is an easy option, that has occasional issues like this.

I just feel like there has to be another option. What that is, I have no idea, but I feel like it's there

The option is to spend some of those BILLIONS google makes on real human eyes to vet these copyright claims instead of having something like this be an automated system.

Unfortunately that's not how the DMCA works. It is required to take the content down when issued with a takedown notice. The takedown must always be issued by a human and carries legal consequences for lying.

The user whose work was taken down is allowed to file a counter-notification, at which point it gets turned over to the courts for review.

It seems you are quite correct on the law. Which means it needs to be changed, A mere allegation should not be enough to compel someone to delete a video. There should have to be some minimal basis for it.

I'm not from the US, so I can't make changes. Over here though the flawed EUCD that went through attempted to modernise European copyright law because of these same issues. The US DMCA was 1998 if I remember my research, so it's about as old as me.
