Every public sector worker should return to their office to help us have thriving CBDs? Gotta disagree there. It has been so good for the wellbeing of staff to have the ability to work at home. That's more important than whether or not all the coffee shops stay open IMO.

Continue "flexible working practices" is just lip service IMO. I'd prefer a clear mandate from employers that their staff are trusted to continue to be productive at home some of the time, if needs be. People often need clear permission, or they'll just go back to the rat race.

It's better for the environment, better for childcare, better for work/life balance, better for wellbeing. If you HATE working from home and want to go in each day, go for it! But the alternative has been so, so good for so many.

If I go back to paying $126 for travel every month then my ability to put money into any local businesses will definitely drop. If I get a 10 trip and come in less regularly I'll have more cashflow to get coffee when I do come in. Maybe I'm just being a dick here.

It worries me that the govt is telling the State Services Commission to encourage their staff to all work at the office again, to "help have thriving CBDs". That's a pretty clear message and may mean that some lose the option entirely.

Yup, not happy with this at all, worried about opportunity to get rid of the micromanagement culture that has prevailed in the public sector will be lost. Haven't read the room on this one, huge opportunity to transform, rather than shoehorn us back into "old" normal

I have a toddler in daycare 3 days a week, so it's not any different for me during the day - it's so much easier getting dropping him off/picking him up though and so much less rush, and we get more time together at both ends of the day right now which is great.
