100%. Especially the bit about journals not wanting empirical pieces! I've tried to publish some of the 'nuts and bolts' stuff I've collected during fieldwork and it's always the bit that I'm told needs to go to make space for more theory!

Please share any historical accounts or biographies written by peacekeepers? Will be great to start a bibliography of memoirs!

'The Oxford Handbook of Women, Peace and Security is essential reading not only for students but also for academics, practitioners + advocates as we assess the progress of the WPS 'agenda', as well as its paradoxes'. Review up on 📚

And even that piece is short on the nuts and bolts. I have literally pages and pages of notes on how procurement officers in missions work. This stuff was hugely important in my PK econs work - but only to my own thought process and as occasional footnotes. What a waste!

(I decided to take that as a compliment but that was definitely not how it was intended.)

My life in a peacekept city piece is the most heavily empirical I've published. Lucky for me, the reviewers and editors were on-board. But when I presented it at a seminar pre-submission, I was told to write for an academic journal, not Vanity Fair!

Hard because of article word limits -- there is only so much space. Hard because the "unsexy" empirical stuff gives way to more compelling material, given these space limits. Hard because a lot of journals don't want to publish empirical pieces!

This is a great thread, and it got me thinking about how much "nuts and bolts" empirical material I have that I've never used (I'm sure I'm not the only one). What PKers do is a basic but really important question (with many many answers). But publishing on this stuff is hard.

Last week the Independent Commission for Aid Impact issued a damning report on the UK’s Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI), citing weak leadership, lack of strategy, fragmented programming, poor monitoring and failure to include survivors.

As a disabled student, the first thing I do when we get the syllabus is flip to the attendance policy and let me explain in detail why this one is so terribly daunting and ableist.

A picture of part of a syllabus. It is too long for ALT text so please see tweet reply for image description.

Skal vi korrigere for undervisningsbelastning? Det korrelerer kanskje (negativt) med fou-tid? Grafen viser (tildeling per årsverk faglig ansatt) * (studenter per årsv faglig ansatt). Ikke brukt 1. stilling.
