Very well-written article in The New Yorker tonight, featuring extended airtime for the growing cadre of public health experts who see the risks of repeated head impacts in football and elsewhere differently than MDs do.

Really enjoyed being at my nephew’s 2007 (u-13) home game in Greenisland this morning. Both sets of boys played well in tough conditions but, seriously, opposition coaches swearing at the referee is disgraceful. These children are 12 YEARS OLD!

This 100th NFL season has been a vivid example of how the selective shaping of public memory also entails strategic acts of public forgetting. Great work, as always, by : highlighting a part of the sport's history that must too be reckoned with.

Interesting that the co commentator on VIrgin One in Ireland said that Doris would have an HIA and that some people don’t understand how the HIA process works! He might want to understand it himself first! Not sure who it is?

Teachable moment re concussion process in rugby - when a player goes down after head impact, and shows ANY of the following signs, there’s NO HIA. It’s immediate & permanent removal. The HIA process starts with Criteria 1 signs. An HIA1 screen only happens if C1 signs absent

With 10 days until we're sharing the asks of our members for incoming government. Sport & physical activity are a huge part of the fabric of Irish society & can act as an important tool for government in addressing issues of health and social inclusion.
