Just a pattern I'm picking up as I look into residency programs: If your program doesn't have some kind of or education built in, I'm not sure you can call it "full scope." Empower PCPs to care for patients at *all* stages of life.

“87 year old, confirmed full code, so we are consulting to discuss her goals of care.” Is it wrong that this bothers me? Don’t get me wrong, GoC is my favorite thing to talk about, but the role of is not to persuade patients to go DNAR.

I’ve mentioned this trick on every. Single. Inpatient rotation I’ve had, and I get scoffed at every time. It’s literally harmless to try. I don’t understand why so many of my seniors/attendings refuse to even attempt it.

Please stop referring to patients as “unfortunate.”

Curious what those of you on the admissions side of things think about this. As an applicant, I would have loved this.

Is there a greater evil than insurance companies? The sad reality is, this patient’s best shot at pain control is getting meds off the street. This is maddening.

Yes. We need to prepare future physicians to care for our fastest growing population. It is vital to nearly every specialty. More and more for early learners.

Re-visiting this post-interview season: if your only exposure to is "nursing home rounds," and if all of your residents tell me they don't really do anything on that rotation, maybe rethink that part of the curriculum.

Endlessly grateful for the new student group leadership for keeping our group flourishing. Most of these students are M1s! I have no doubt our SIG will outlive my time at CNU. And thank you for yet another wonderful talk.

I am disappointed that this STILL needs to be said, but ... 👏 is👏not👏 a 👏 "soft" speciality 👏. Many patients who are dying have complex illnesses and require complex medicine. is complex. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

For me, it demonstrated that goals of care change, that we can't always project our own current wants and desires onto our future selves or our loved ones, and that we don't always choose wisely in crisis mode. The important thing is we have these conversations at all.

I've been a little MIA due to interview season, but a friend sent me this podcast, and I wanted to see what and twitter think about it:

So are there immunologists out there exhausted by daily explanations of how they are different from allergy? Has the allergy / immunology field debated whether their speciality names should be split? Asking for a friend.

education has a place in . Every future physician should graduate medical school feeling empowered to help patients at any stage of life, regardless of future specialty.

Every time I log on to , I get distracted by the motto "Tomorrow's Doctors, Tomorrow's Cures." Maybe someday we'll move past the notion that the goal of medicine is to cure. I'd love to see something about or ... Maybe "tomorrow."

“Instead of reducing his situation to a series of medical abbreviations and 1/2 sentences as I did most patient notes, I wrote about him in paragraphs, as though completing sentences in his chart could somehow add a measure of dignity to a man dying alone.”

Do people write case reports for patients with socioeconomic comorbidities? I think there is a lot to learn from this situation, and from many of your comments, it seems it is entirely too common.
