Would Trump dump Pence? At least two big reasons he doesn't seem likely to: 1. His own public comments, which have been strongly supportive of keeping Pence on the ticket 2. History - VPs used to be swapped out relatively often, but they haven't been in postwar era

But 3 reasons not to close door on idea: 1. Pence's 2016 appeal to Christian right no longer needed 2. Trump admin has ton of turnover otherwise 3. Trump might be desperate and have few cards to play besides VP switch http://centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/articles/trump-pence-the-ticket-that-seems-almost-certain-for-a-2020-reprise/ …

I don't disagree but (1) isn't really operative given Trump's propensity for instantly and drastically trying to rewrite history. (See, for example, "I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic.")

Him telling a lie which zero people believe isn’t a good example, him switching publicly saying he made a mistake about something and going hard in that opposite direction, would be a better example, of which there are none

2(b): There have been rumors and takes about replacing the incumbent VP for nearly every modern president, all of which turn out to be wrong.

Remember when Obama was going to replace Biden with Hillary?

Third reason to keep Pence is that he’s been leading the coronavirus response, he’s more competent public face on the issue than Trump, and to replace him would seem to concede that it’s not going well.

But he can also blame any failures of the coronavirus response on Pence as well. Classic Trumpian blame dodging

If he made a switch for a Trump foot soldier like a Bill Cassidy, Marsha Blackburn, etc., he would have a harder time winning swing voters who already don’t like Trump but don’t mind Pence’s social conservatism

💯 He will definitely swap Pence for Nikki Haley as soon as Biden names his VP choice.

Lol, the biggest problem with Trump / Pence isn't Pence
