Hey all you artists working in the digital medium: I am a software developer currently employed at an art museum, and we frequently put digital art in our galleries. Some of it is new. Some of it is decades old now. I have some opinions…

Seems stupid writing pseudo-code by hand, but I actually found it super useful when I’m trying to figure out some tricky algorithms for procedural generation.

This week on , Count von Count will join us in counting all the values in the JavaScript universe. How many values are there in total? You might be surprised.

Working on abstracting the weapons a bit to allow various parametrized types. Here's a shotgun with multiple bullet raycasts projected at random spread depending on distance.

Some more progress on the FPS: happy with the player controller for now, so I started working on a basic enemy AI state_machine...

The Soyuz spacecraft used a digital clock on the control panel. Surprisingly complex, the clock had over 100 ICs and a switching power supply crammed inside. I open the clock and explain what all these chips do. Details:

The Soyuz spacecraft clock is a gray box with two rows of LED digits on the front, as well as switches and buttons.
The clock opened up. The circuit boards are fanned out, showing the circuitry inside the clock.
The switching power supply board has transistors, inductors, ICs, and other components.
One of the digital logic boards. It has rows of surface-mounted flat-pack integrated circuits.

Consider: millions of years ago our antecedents gave a massive sacrifice of their left hemisphere. We lost a tremendous amount of short term memory and replaced it with Broca’s, Wernicke & the phonological loop. But why? So we can—talk. Thus chimpanzees can do this—we can’t:

”I want to take pride in my work. I want to deliver working, stable things. To do that, we need to understand what we are building, in and out, and that’s impossible to do in bloated, over-engineered systems.”
