You feel weak when you're getting stronger, uncomfortable when you're expanding your comfort zone, unimaginative when you're getting more creative, like an idiot when you're getting smarter.

99 smartphones are transported in a handcart to generate virtual traffic jam in Google Maps. Through this activity, it is possible to turn a green street red which has an impact in the physical world by navigating cars on another route!

Reading quotes on GoodReads is a random hobby I like that I've never heard anybody else talk about. Step 1: Pick an author Step 2: Find their top highlighted quotes. Step 3: Read until you're bored. Rinse, repeat.

Fantastic interview with David Foster Wallace. Two quotes: 1) “We don’t want things to be quiet anymore... it’s becoming difficult to ask people to read for just an hour.” 2) “Most problems in life come from confusing what you want with what you need.”

I see PM core responsibilities as: 1) Represent the user 2) Champion business case 3) Make sure everyone around project is heard, bought in and happy 4) Help project converge on deadline Others can do this work, too! Ultimately, PM fills whatever team gaps exist to achieve (4)

The most common bottleneck is emotional. Unprocessed emotions and habitual reactions take the form of low self confidence, fear, anxiety and resistance. They're the reason we don't pursue opportunities, avoid important work and 'self-sabotage'

Publishing a 15,000-word essay next week. Here’s what I learned writing it: 1) Great essays make claims that are surprising in the moment but obvious in retrospect. 2) Hold the reader’s hand. Tell them what you’re gonna tell them, tell them, and tell them what you told them.

Your brain is a finely tuned prediction engine. Can you notice what the moment by moment prediction feels like? How much of your reality is right now and how much is this subtle, barely perceptual prediction engine? You can turn it off you know. What's that like?

I’m usually terrified people will hate my writing. My only saving grace is how I direct that fear. I use it to motivate me to find better ideas and share more useful examples rather than allowing it to prevent me from sharing at all. Fear is the gas pedal, not the brake.

For years, I would force myself to write at least 25 possible titles for each article. Almost without fail, the best ideas came later in the list. The lesson: Don’t stop early. Ideas that are easy to think of are obvious. The good ideas come after the obvious ones are gone.

If your work doesn't seem *viscerally* important + interesting/fun *to you,* it'll really mess with your life and general happiness. Repeating all the objective merits and perks, telling yourself you have no choice, and picking up a meditation practice are not going to save you

Tips for dinner parties: 1) Make sure everybody can see and hear each other. 2) Allow only one conversation at a time. No side talk. 3) Have a loose agenda for discussion topics. Works best if you want to talk about ideas. Yes, I know it’s unconventional. But it works!

Say anything, and risk being misunderstood. Write anything, and risk being perceived wrong. Dare to voice your thoughts in any way, and risk being accused, shunned, rejected. Do it anyway. You know what you’re doing, and you will be given what you deserve accordingly.

is a cute argument for why ethics thought experiments will tend to lead you astray, because they make it harder to form ethical understanding (which comes from simple representations) so lead to less skillful ethical actions.

By showing someone that our default systems have significant crappy elements, and introducing the move of transcending systems as a path to agency / strength / capacity... the blinders & chains are coming off, but so are the guardrails. oh no
