This is the most incoherent thing I’ve read in a while. There’s hardly any discussion of dysphoria or bodies but lots of talk about fashion. These people think “gender identity” is something akin to the soul but the way they talk about it is pure style.https://www.teenvogue.com/story/trans-masculine-non-binary-conversation-affirmation-identity-beauty …

This is spot on. If kids are taught that what it means to be a man or a woman is toxic stereotypes, then lots will assume they’re non-binary. But a 13-year-old I know responded to a gender fluid friend’s question about her gender by saying “I’m a girl. But I’m style-fluid.”

When I was growing up I didn't hear anything negative about boys or girls. Even so, I had dysphoria but the dysphoria was also about binary transition. Me being nonbinary isn't a style choice, and it's not because of trauma.

Yes, but also just a desire to be different and stand out from the crowd. It’s not unusual, particularly among young people.

Huh because one non-binary person I know definitely doesn't want to stand out from the crowd and actually locks themselves away because they can't stand the thought of people noticing them since transitioning.

That may be part of what provides the sense of clarity and stability
