My heart is bursting. On the eve of my first child's birth, my dad - who's been in prison nearly my entire life - was granted clemency. He never intended harm, yet his crime devastated many families. My heart breaks for the families that can never get their loved ones back.

I don't understand the logic of your second statement. You are the DA you should have heart for the victim first. I support the second chance but should not feel sorry for those who penalized for their wrong doing. With your soft heart on crime creates the chaos in SF today.

DAs are not the victims' attorneys. They work for society - they represent the government/all of us. By the logic of "the victims can't ever see their families," no prison sentence could ever be sufficient. In which case you want vengeance, not justice; revenge vs rehabilitation
