1) it's called a separation between bobby and job. 2) by avoiding piracy they're avoiding jail time 3) there are different degrees of breaking the law. Breaking one law =!= breaking another. 4) often console-hacking expences come out-of-pocket, or use equipment you already have.

As an example: there's an exemption to the DMCA for phones/tablets. With that exemption, *everything we do* becomes legal. Piracy is still illegal.

So effectively we're acting as if game consoles are covered under the exemption even though they're not as the boundary.
