Slightly less than 800 votes of the northern and western decrease can be attributed to Interior villages being moved to House District 36. Even so, the decline in voter turnout in much of rural Alaska is striking.
Not counting the few votes that may be added today, the votes cast in Alaska's election this year were 18,642 lower than in 2018 (the last midterm). Nearly one-third (5,917) of the decrease happened in the four northern and western House districts (10% of the population). #akleg
Adding the 1,373 uncounted ballots to the 264,994 counted, Alaska's total turnout was 266,367 (with perhaps a few more ballots to be added tomorrow). That's the lowest in a general election since 2010.
The Anchorage numbers for uncounted and partial ballots are similar, which may mean they're largely the same ballots. If that's the case, they shouldn't have much effect on House elections, since partial ballots generally don't count in House races.
The remaining questioned ballots are in the four northern and western House districts. The absentee ballots are concentrated in Anchorage and House District 37 (Aleutians and Bristol Bay).
