Since I wrote this, I heard from Nevada City, CA recorder Natalie Adona whose office was papered with these fliers last week. "I don't think the settlement really makes a difference to the conspiratorially minded," she said theguardian.com/us-news/2023/a

Per : Firing was NOT part of Dominion settlement.
"Instead related to material uncovered during pre-trial discovery and the company is concerned that more information exists that could be legally damaging..."

Tucker Carlson report by
Decision "came straight from" Rupert Murdoch.
Two related issues:
1. Discrimination lawsuit filed by Fox producer Abby Grossberg
2. Coverage of Jan 6th, on heels of 60 Minutes expose of Tucker lies re Ray Epps

I talked to election officials about whether the $787m settlement between Fox and Dominion will do anything to tamp down one election misinformation.
"This is not a panacea," Maricopa County recorder Stephen Richer told me.

For some perspective, this settlement from Fox News to a voting system vendor is more the 10x the amount of funding Congress appropriated to the states for elections in the FY23 budget

News: I'm told that, as part of the terms of its settlement, Fox News will *not* have to acknowledge ON AIR that it told lies about Dominion in the wake of the 2020 election. Fox did acknowledge falsehoods in its statement. But don't expect hosts to have to read statements.

Important to remember that basically nobody before today has been held accountable for 2020 election lies, and $787.5 million (while less than half of what Dominion demanded in its lawsuit) is not nothing

CNN's @MarshallCohen observed a top Fox lawyer showing a piece of paper to a top Dominion lawyer. A few min later, they both stepped out of the courtroom into a private, secured area for court staff. Moments later, they walked back into court together. Unclear what was discussed.

We've officially hit two hours of delay here in Wilmington (plus one full day after the start of trial was pushed back from yesterday).
Only natural to think that a settlement might be in the works. Judge Davis is very punctual and wouldn't delay the proceedings for nothing.

Anyone's guess at this point.

That would be amazing for Dominion.
It would have its statement discussed with no rebuttal across all the evening news outlets: print and broadcast. twitter.com/kira_lerner/st…

Each party's opening statement is supposed to last around 90 minutes, so it's looking like we will no longer have time to hear from both Dominion and Fox before court recesses at 4:30 pm. Perhaps just Dominion's opening statement today?
