You know, considering that last winter, we killed off an entire circulating strain of the flu, "well we just have to live with COVID" sounds less like realism and more like an attempt to get us to accept the stunning, incredibly total failure of our government to do ANYTHING.

This. A harder but shorter lockdown to stomp it down to negligible, followed by border testing and aggressive contact tracing for border testing's fail rate, could have let the vaccine be a travel shot and optional otherwise by the time it could be invented.

I'm just about the theoretical upper limit of pro-vaxx but I'm still all for them being unnecessary.

Covid is many times more contagious than the flu even the original strain. Delta emerged from India which was unable to cope with it. Not everything is about America my god.
