chromium is just as secure, if not, more than any browser out there.
Yes, I do not support Google, but security wise, chromium, especially a degoogled variant, is not an offender.

The problem being discussed isn't chrome itself, it is its chromium engine, and brave is chromium-based
It is a monopoly because most browsers use this engine and Google can modify their sites (YT gmail etc) to only support this engine, so users are forced to use it

The engine could be forked, but it won't serve any purpose, as most users will stick to Chrome or blink based browsers, thus guaranteeing Google's control over how the web works.

Edge is Chromium-based, and we see quite many folks adopt it (even on Linux). Are you saying Duck Duck Go should write their own engine rather than what the open source community already built?
