    Evergreen tweet. I’d add, that elections administration is often very messy - sausage factory messy - due to the many rules and procedures, moving parts, and constantly revolving workforce (both staff and volunteers). It’s actually amazing that elections work as well as they do.

    Last month, I went to Lockport City in upstate New York, right after the public school district’s facial recognition system had been turned on. School district officials are adamant that the tech benefits the students (including kids as young as 5).

    There seems to be confusion that DHS should've reviewed Iowa app before its use in caucus. It's not the job of DHS to review/test/certify apps, though it could conceivably do this if someone requested it. It's also not DHS's job to test/certify voting machines. EAC oversees this.

    It's not a voting system. It's a results reporting app. Please don't confuse this with a voting system.

    Iowa is charming and everything but let’s all admit that if we saw this sloppy, chaotic, slap-dash voting system employed in another country we’d call for UN election monitoring.

    Iowa's Democratic chair said before the caucus that the system had built-in redundancies, including a hotline to receive results if the app failed. But precincts yesterday reported waiting an hour for anyone to answer that "hotline."
