A thought regarding #SanFrancisco #housing: Many neighborhoods in SF have SFHs with almost identical floor plans (I live in Midtown Terrace, where every house is about the same). I also live about 200 yards from School of the Arts. 1

What is keeping the @sfbos from working with local neighborhood groups to fast track a pre-approved model for a SFH addition in these neighborhoods?

For example, most homes in #midtownterrace have no buildings behind them. A pre-approved 1-story addition would create an additional 2 bedrooms and 1 bath to most homes. These unites could be rented to teachers at Clarendon, SOTA, and other local schools.

The agreement: private homeowners can build the pre-approved additions without going through the lengthy permitting process (this is why it's important to have a standardized plan), and in return, the addition must be rented at 15% below market rate for 5 years.

In this year's #SFMayor election, there are lots of ideas regarding "creating affordable housing." Very few plans tap into the resources of private homeowners - this would require basically no money from City Hall and simultaneously create opportunity for renters and homeowners.

1 story additions are actually pretty expensive and probably don’t pencil.

Pencil out for who? Expensive compared to what, not building?
