Absolutely yes, but not going to get sucked into the nimby/yimby framing, which is rubbish.

NIMBY was historically bad, primarily aimed at things like rehab, mosques, social housing. YIMBY is a slogan designed to game the debate. It's bullshit. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5xC9nSkZ1ZI …

Which is not to say that people identifying with Y position are full of BS. It's a savvy marketing move that mobilizes genuine concerns for - mostly - an agenda for profit not for people.

I could not disagree more. As a homeowner I profit enormously from the status quo. I support YIMBY because I want more people to live in SF and in urban settings generally.

I don't see that SF needs to - or can - accommodate every single person who wants to work for Apple or Google or Facebook or Genentech, living in SF and getting chauffeured to work.

Which is a significant driver of current "crisis" in SF housing.

I would like the South Bay to build more but right now Menlo Park is arguing over whether buildings should be more than 3 stories tall even though it is getting $1-2B in govt subsidies for rail electrification (see

There seems to be a lot more potential for building between SF and SJ. Geography- esp in the form of the Bay, and if we want to preserve some wilderness in the Coast Range is always going to be an issue. Driving issue is desire of COs to build huge office spaces there.

The companies also want to build housing but the cities there don’t allow housing.....
