Sports field/parking lot between the two residence halls is an obvious site for redevelopment. But I'd like to see it as part of a comprehensive discussion of regional housing and transit and UC enrollment. We may need to consider whether UC should have/needs more undergrads.

A lot of universities are focusing on overseas undergrads as funding source. So when student housing is discussed, intersects with a lot of other issues. At Cal, of course, town-gown dynamics have always been a bit fraught and in no area more than development and construction

Berkeley is beautiful and pleasant and bulletdozing structures is bad for the environment. We need to find ways to move forward on housing that are more constructive and creative. I believe that's possible. But possibly not if investor profits are an issue.
