I think it’s good but currently impossible in the current political context of California. Reforming Prop 13, which is the great white whale of Californian politics, is probably a *prerequisite* to any kind of non-token social housing program.

it is fun to remind myself of the nightmare that is prop 13 but yes i am aware of it, but it is my continuing belief that the best way to surpass reactionary constraints is to set goals which go beyond what those constraints allow. shoot for the moon and all that

if there are socialists who support prop 13 (i don't think any official DSA branches have) they are bad socialists and are either very dumb or evil

i don't believe i've heard of SF DSA supporting prop 13 (indeed iirc i saw
@uhshanti say she donates to organisations that oppose it) but if anyone supports prop 13 i very strongly disagree with them3 replies 0 retweets 3 likes -

Literally no one in DSA has ever supported Prop 13. Please search my handle and "Prop 13" for more information

Anyway I am glad we are back to this internecine discussion while Bay Area homes continue to appreciate by $100-300K per year, no rent control nor real zoning reforms have been achieved, and California is still only spending roughly $1B a year on affordable housing.
