Yes, obviously the status quo is not working, and causing great harm. Contrary to what you and the so-called "YIMBYs" keep saying, we progressives support change also – we just prioritize maximum affordability for low income and poor people, who are in most desperate straits.

But if your affordability scheme is not feasible then you get 0 affordable units. 50% of 0 is 0.

One point that I think sometimes muddies this discussion for some people - not present company - is the conflation/confusion of appreciation of home value and profits from real estate investment, which I at least think should be considered as different.

There's also be a curious silence about/elision of the times between demoing SFH and finishing apartment buildings and what happens to residents - and vacancy rates - in that time gap. But some of this is just Twitter as totally inadequate for nuanced and detailed discussions.
