Yes, most of the Bay Area’s flatlands are relatively untouchable via zoning/preservation for new construction so new tall things are in liquefaction zones and new sprawl things are in high fire risk areas. 🤷🏻‍♀️https://twitter.com/markmobility/status/986252710172332035 …

This is a little terrifying: Likelihood that ground will *liquefy* in an earthquake. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/04/17/us/san-francisco-earthquake-seismic-gamble.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=photo-spot-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news … pic.twitter.com/AeYXiIuaBD

        By flatlands, I mean non-liquefaction, slightly-higher-and-more-impervious-to-sea-level-rise-flatlands.

Aren’t the tall things bolted to bedrock?

Love how it completely omits the specific reason the Millennium Tower is at risk (pilings not driven all the way to bedrock) and leaves it to the reader to conclude *all* skyscrapers are risky, by extension

Listen, they know what they’re doing and they’d never let a tall building get constructed in an area where it could like tip or something
